Personal Development

Do you ever think about the way you live your life? Do you wonder what have caused you to take so many wrong turns? The answer is pretty simple; You’re human. Everyone (no matter how successful they are) make small or big mistakes throughout their lives. Have you ever heard of the power of thought or the power of suggestion? The mind is an extremely powerful tool, and if it’s used right it can completely turn your life upside down. You can have everything you want. You can become what have only existed in your dreams. All the information you need, in order to make this happen, is out there. And best of all; It is free. Some of the greatest writers on Personal Development are long dead and their work has been handed over to the public domain.

I spent years searching the internet for information about Personal Development. I researched thousands of websites looking for the right material. I downloaded and read tons of useful (and useless) information about personal development. But still I wasn’t satisfied. I couldn’t get rid of the feeling I was overlooking something.

The books that are partly responsible for the start of the Personal Development movement, was written a long time ago. In 1912 Charles F. Haanel wrote his best known book ‘The Master Key System’. Many Authors in the same genre consider this book to be one of the main sources of their inspiration. Have you heard of Napoleon Hill? He wrote the following in a letter to Haanel: “my present success and the success which has followed my work as President of the Napoleon Hill Institute is due largely to the principles laid down in The Master-Key System.”

Rumors also has it that Haanels book inspired Bill Gates to drop out of the University to pursue his dreams. We all know what happened to him. The copyrights for the ‘The Master Key System’ has expired and it is now in the public domain. That means that it is free for anyone to download, read and distribute.

Another book I would like to point out is a wonderful book written in 1902. James Allens ‘As a Man Thinketh’. This is a book that is just as relevant today as in 1902. The main message in the book is this: “Change your thoughts, change your life”.

All the most powerful and successful people in the world know how to do this. You can learn it to.

Both ‘The Master Key System’ and ‘As a Man Thinketh’ are at the “must read” list if you want to start unlocking the secrets of Personal Development.

At http://www.PersonalDevelopmentBooks.net you can download ‘The Master Key System’, ‘As A Man Thinketh’ and hundreds of other books for free.

Personal Development

While personal development programs are often discussed, they are sadly misunderstood by most. Frequently they are considered to be a kind of course or retreat that focuses on the development of a personal trait of character to the exclusion of anything else. Conversely, others believe them to be great business tools that help anyone – from the entry level blue collar worker to the top executive of the company – to prepare themselves for climbing that next rung on the corporate ladder by teaching the latest business gimmicks and buzzwords. Neither is completely true while at the same time both contain valuable kernels of truth. Personal development coaching affects both a person’s private as well as business persona by focusing on a specific need the employee may have in a business area which is nonetheless rooted in the personal sphere.

The Challenge of Public Speaking

Most commonly associated with the realm of personal development is public speaking – the bane of most any business person’s existence. While on the college level this is sought to be conquered, the fact remains that during those years public speaking is accompanied with many nervous giggles and college levity that will be conspicuously absent in the business world. There is much about becoming an adequate and even good public speaker that cannot be taught in a class – there is the mindset, the projection of the voice that is borne from confidence, and of course the ability to reach an audience, any audience. Some aspects may be learned in the classroom, such as the organization of the speech, how to dress, how to stand, how to address a group of diverse individuals, and also the proper use of grammar and language. Personal development coaching picks up where the college level courses left off. In a personal development class that speaker to be will learn how to communicate with the audience rather than just talk at them. She or he understands the nuances of persuading addressees and some business people find that they actually begin to like this aspect of their jobs.

Dealing With Anxiety and Self Doubt

If public speaking is the bane, then anxiety is the feeling that fuels it. Anxiety is experienced in a wide array of different everyday life situations, such as meeting a date, going to a party and entering a room filled with people, boarding a bus where everyone is looking up, going on a job interview, applying for a loan, and of course pitching a new idea to the boss. Personal development coaching seeks to help individuals deal with their fears and worries and instead focus almost exclusively on the defeat of self-doubt borne from an ability to recall instantly one’s abilities, strengths, and likeable qualities while at the same time remembering that the person across the desk is just as human as oneself. While this may sound like common sense, it is a concept that is revealed, studied, and honed in on during a personal development class.

Becoming a Self Starter

Nothing impresses a boss more than an employee who shows initiative and is self motivated. As a matter of fact, a perusal of the want ads quite frequently brings up the term “self starter” which is a not so subtle hint that the employers are looking for something who will not wait around to be told what to do, when to dig deeper, how to go further, why to aim higher, but instead want someone who sees a problem and will work on the solution, finds a working process and seeks to improve on it, and notices a job that was left undone and will go ahead and finish it. This kind of attitude is what propels the entrepreneur and the go-getter on the fast track to promotion. Personal development coaching will help you transcend your wait and see attitude and instead enables you to attain a level of self motivation you might not have known was in you.

Sharpening Your Focusing Skills

If there is one thing the manager detests at a lengthy business meeting is watching an employee doodle and stares out the window. Equally, there are those who seem to be lost within minutes of a particularly boring speaker. On the other hand, much admired is the employee who can sit through even the lamest presentation and concisely grasp the fine points, focuses on the strengths, and hones in on the weaknesses. Personal development coaching offers many mnemonic devises as well as attitude primers that will help you to harness your wandering mind and sharpen your focusing skills. Increased concentration will make you a most valuable asset in your professional life and with personal development a goal easily attained!

0 Greatest Personal Development Tools   Choices Helping Others Believing in Yourself Changing Your Self Talk Thoughts – Feelings – Actions – Results – Beliefs The Power of Attitude Finding Your Focus Setting Great Goals Taking Control of Your Time Taking Action

Choices

It’s the little choices that count Each day we make hundreds of little choices that we don’t even think about Who you spend your time with What and how much your eat What time you wake up in the morning What you watch on TV How well you listen to others How you think about yourself How often you judge, criticize or complain What you think about

Unconscious Choices vs. Conscious Choices; Our brains are made to create programs of the things that we do regularly. These programs make it possible to make decisions easier and to not have to think about every detail of everything we do. But what happens is these programs take over and we never even stop to think if we have the right programs. Have you ever driven to work and realize that you have no idea how you got there? You were on auto pilot.

This happens to us many times each day and we don’t even realize it.

You get to make new choices about ANYTHING you want everyday You decide, do you want to go through your day aware and in control of your choices or let old patterns and experiences choose for you?

Helping Others

If you want to feel fulfilled and live your life with purpose then help others When you help improve the lives of others You add purpose and value to your life You increase your self esteem You are teaching by example You feel increased energy and success Don’t wait to help others until you feel that you are where you think you should be.

 Believing in Yourself

Without self belief we hesitate Have no vision or dream Without a dream there is no plan Without a plan there is no accomplishment With self belief we don’t hesitate We have confidence in the outcome We can see a future filled with unlimited potential We find fulfillment and see the best in ourselves True self belief is not the same as arrogance We get self belief in two ways As a child from our parents and others Through the repeated experience of small successes

You can achieve greater self belief if you choose to Ways you can improve self belief Create new programs through self-talk Acknowledgement Journal Schedule small tasks that you have been putting off and do them Ignore the negative opinions of others Surround yourself with those who support and believe in you Instant self belief exercise Stop, clear your mind Picture of yourself at your absolute best Repeat a few statements that works for you Example would be “I believe in myself! I can do this and I will do this! Nothing can stop me from achieving my dreams! I believe in myself!” When you repeat this statement with enthusiasm you literally deliver a barrage of chemicals to your unsuspecting brain that will put you into a high energy mode The choice to believe in yourself is completely up to you. You get to believe in yourself anytime you want to.

 Changing Your Self Talk

This is the single most powerful tool that there is. This one thing can change your life as it changed mine We live with harmful negative programs that can literally be reprogrammed This is more than hope it is a solution Remember GIGO Behavioral Scientists now know that what we store in our minds like programs are acted upon as though they are true. Even if they are false Everything you have heard, seen, done or experienced is permanently stored in your subconscious mind, word for word Your brain does not know the difference between true and false or positive and negative. It just stores and acts upon the repeated information it receives So what type of information has your brain received that you have repeated to yourself and now believe and act upon as fact?

It’s been estimated that by the time we are 18 years old we have received more than 148,000 negative messages Behavioral researchers have found that as much as 77% of all programs that we receive are negative, counterproductive, false and work against us. We receive these messages from all around us Parents TV Teachers Movies Peers Magazines Siblings Books…

Everything about you is effected by your repeated messages or programs Attitudes, skills, career, relationships, creativity, success, communication, income and anything else you can think of Our parents did the best with what they had – they unknowingly gave us the same type of programs that they received Our amazing brains Chemical and electrical processes in our brains create pathways The pathways that are the strongest are those that have been repeated The key to programming is repetition What are you choosing to repeat in your mind?

Monitor Your Self-Talk Listen to everything that you say to yourself and others Be very aware of your thoughts Keep a journal for 1 week of the types of thoughts that you notice Edit Your Thoughts and Your Words You have the ability to choose your thoughts With practice you can stop yourself the moment before you think or say anything negative You won’t change your old programs automatically it takes repetition

It took many years to create the old programs but can take just months to reprogram them Immediately replace the negative thought with a positive one Listen to Positive Self-Talk You can do this through repeating affirmations daily Listen to a recording of yourself Listen to professionally recorded CD’s

Thoughts – Feelings – Actions – Results – Beliefs/Being

This concept expands upon controlling our self-talk More than any other personal development concept if you truly understand this you will live a happier more fulfilling life Our thoughts create our feelings Our feelings effect our actions Our actions effect our results Our results create our beliefs Our beliefs then create our thoughts and the cycle continues This concept is truly life changing because if you get this you will begin to monitor and change your thoughts which will effect everything else

Before you can transform negative thoughts and feelings, you need to become aware of them, so here’s a list of beliefs that may need updating!

Step 1

• When under pressure I ……………………….……………………….

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

• I often feel guilty about ……………………………………………………….

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

• When ………………………. happens I stress out and feel like ……………………….

• My most frequent negative / uncomfortable emotion is feeling

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

• The feeling I dislike the most is ……………………….

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Congratulations – that took courage!

Step 2

Now that you have identified your false beliefs, go back and re-do the exercise

Write how you would like to be. For example:

When under pressure I … panic

revised to

When under pressure I … think about the situation calmly and ask for support.

The Power of Attitude

Your attitude determines how well your day is going Your attitude is choosing how well your life is working You choose your attitude Some people are in control of their lives – while others are controlled by their lives It’s more than wearing rose colored glasses Attitude is the perspective from which you view your life. It’s how you view yourself and others and what’s happening around you in any given moment. Your attitude is the role that you choose to play each day Your attitude influences every aspect of your life Beliefs Energy Stress Emotions Thoughts Your attitude will determine how you feel about and act upon the tools that you learn in this seminar Protect your positive attitude from the negative energies of others

Be aware Check in with yourself and ask “How is my attitude?” Tell yourself “I’m going to make this a great day!” This doesn’t mean you ignore your problems, you just choose to deal with them in a more positive way Own your attitude Never let anyone determine your attitude You choose from moment to moment and in each situation who you want to be Strengthen your attitude The more you are aware of and own your attitude the more you will be in control and better able to choose your attitude in the moment It’s like building a muscle, the more you use it the better.

Finding Your Focus

A clear focus of what you want creates momentum and energy It’s O.K. a lot of very bright people don’t know what they want How clear is your picture? Blurry Some idea but too general Clear and focused The more time you spend on figuring out what you want the more clarity and focus you will have Knowing what you want makes it easy to set goals Without clarity you don’t really have a target. There is no real sense of direction and no driving force behind your actions. In order to succeed you need to ask yourself some questions about what you want? When you visualize it’s important to include as much detail as possible. Be sure to include as many of your senses as possible:   It’s not enough to just have an idea of what you want or to say that you know what you want. You need to take the time to visualize, in detail, what your perfect life will look like and then write it down. It’s very important in order for your subconscious mind to absorb your vision that you write it down several times and read it daily.   By writing it all down and reading it daily your subconscious will start to see it as fact and this will help to align you with your perfect life. The Law of Attraction will work in your favor if you see it and feel it with emotion.

Setting Great Goals

Now that you know what you want it’s time to set up a plan. “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail” Did you know that less than 3% of people actually set goals in a structured manner? “Without goals we live life by chance, instead of by choice” It’s important to set both long term and short term goals. Long term goals are your vision and short terms goals give you the path to actually get there. Write out the goal Start with, “My goal is to. . . ” Set the date that you will begin and complete the goal. You will be reviewing the process regularly . Don’t worry you can adjust the date if necessary Write out what the obstacles are to reaching your goal? (1 – 3 obstacles) This is a crucial part of achieving goals. You must look ahead to see what might stand in your way. Write out the action steps to overcome the obstacles. Do not skip this step. It is often overlooked and the reason that many people never reach their goals. Decide on a reward How will you reward yourself when you achieve your goals. Make it proportionate to the goal. Review your goal daily The more you review it the more real it will be. Each morning and evening is best. Reward Yourself for accomplishments along the way This will be your motivation along the way so don’t skip it. It could be a pat on the back or an afternoon off or a nice dinner, a massage …

“Goals are Dreams with Wings”

Taking Control of Your Time

Your time is not as out of your control as you may think The most successful people all take control of their own time The four steps to controlling your time: Be aware of what you do with your time. Develop time awareness by asking yourself, each morning as you get ready for your day, “How can I make the best use of my time today?” Each night before going to sleep ask yourself, “What did I do with my time today?” Make time to plan your time Keep a daily, weekly and monthly schedule In less than 5 or 10 minutes a day you can plan your time and save many minutes or even hours Do what is important to you and actively avoid what is not Avoid time wasters whenever possible Take time for yourself and the things that you enjoy You can add an extra 20 – 40 hours to your month, every month That’s a half a work week Find time in your day that is wasted on things like watching TV, surfing the net, emails… Skip the news at night and get up an hour earlier

Taking Action

Understand why you don’t take action when you know you should When you understand what is stopping you, you can find a solution There are 5 primary reasons that people don’t take action You don’t know what to do Who does knows what to do? How can you find out what to do? You think that it’s too difficult Is it really difficult or does it just take effort? Have other people done it? Then so can you! You haven’t committed to take action Understanding the motivation behind taking action is key Why do you want to take action? What will that give you? You never really wanted to do it in the first place Go through your to do list and remove or delegate anything that you don’t really want to do. If it’s something that you HAVE to do but don’t want to then keep it on the list but write down the benefits of getting it done. Recommit Stop wasting energy worrying about the things that you don’t want to do. You fear doing things that are outside of our comfort zone Fear is a part of our human survival instinct When we fear doing something we find all kinds of other things to do first The only way to overcome the fear is to have courage and do it, then repeat it

Your entire future depends on what you dream and what you do next Make the choice to live your best life Use your mind, use your heart cherish the moments that make up your life

Choose Well

Serve Others

Believe in Yourself

Change Your Self Talk

Thoughts – Feelings – Actions – Results – Beliefs/Being

Choose Your Attitude

Find Your Focus

Set Great Goals

Take Control of Your Time

Take Action

Enjoy the Journey…

Personal Development

Every one of us is involved in some for of self improvement or personal development. This is true of you whether it is something you currently realise or not! If you have any desires, dreams or goals then you are striving to better yourself, your environment or your world and this we call self improvement.

However, there is one key area of your life that stops you from progressing in a fast and effective manner towards your desires, dreams and goals. I will now highlight this obstacle and show you how to effectively remove it forever so that you can create the life you want!

One of the worst things you can do when you need to motivate yourself to reach your long held goals and dreams is to criticize yourself. This is a pattern that has been taught to you since you were very young with school tests, grading, placement in your class and class evaluations. Teachers, parents and peers constantly compared you to others as if that was a way of gauging your true worth. This kind of personal evaluation probably continues to this day with employment superiors over-viewing your work, progress and most likely conducting some form of personal evaluation.

This view of assessing your strengths and weaknesses, although probably well-intentioned, has set a pattern within your own mind for self-criticism and self-doubt. Are you in a perpetual state of comparison? Do you find yourslef comparing how you perform to the performance of other people? Do you beat yourself up for not having attained the same level of success as those around you or those you view from afar? Are you disappointed in yourself when you fail to achieve exactly what you set out to achieve in the time you gave yourself?

Being self-critical can cause untold damage in your life. Criticism, regardless of what area of yourself or your life you have focused it, has a ripple effect that damages all other areas. By believing you are less than you should be you are sending a very strong message to your subconscious mind that you are just not good enough. Such a belief halts your progress towards your desires. It leaves you feeling frustrated and extremely unhappy. If you are really and truly not good enough then how could you ever change anything? If you are not good enough then there can be no way for you to change yourself, your circumstances or your life.

The first step to overcoming this self-defeating pattern of thinking and feeling is to become aware that it is there. Look carefully at yourself and how you interact with yourself internally. Notice when you have a tendency to berate yourself. When you notice yourself comparing your behaviour, talents, abilities or results to those of someone else immediately stop. Only judge your own performance. If you must compare yourself to anyone then compare yourself with yourself. Look for how you have improved. If you give a task everything you’ve got and do your best then you are already a success regardless of the outcome. You have stretched yourself and your personal self-imposed boundaries.

Keep a journal of all your goals and list the success you have already created. When you can look back at where you once were and see the improvement that you have made personally then your confidence will be increased and your self-esteem will rocket. If you compare yourself to someone else then bare in mind that you do not know the other person’s circumstances. You do not know what advantages they had when they began, so comparing yourself to them is a futile exercise. Even if these people did overcome serious adversity to achieve the same things that you now want take it as a positive sign. If they did it then so can you!

Try to encourage yourself when you are faced with a challenge. The difference between internal criticism and internal encouragement can mean the difference between a life of fear, dread, discouragement, pain, frustration and a life filled with abundance, joy, peace and harmony.

Giving yourself approval takes practise, so start right now. If you look at what you are doing when you criticize yourself it is really a form of self-disapproval. Approving and disapproving are just choices. You make them internally and you can re-make them in a different way. Approving of yourself and dispproving of yourself is merely a choice you make!

Right now begin to give yourself some approval just for the heck of it. Many times we disapprove of ourselves and others for little or no reason so turn that around. Begin to give yourself approval just because you are you. Can you imagine how differently you will view the world through the eyes of self-approval? Can you guess what kind of strides forward you can make in your life with an internal voice of encouragement? Do you think you, your family, friends and work colleges would benefit from you taking this new radical approach to how you view yourself?

By taking this approach and viewing yourself in a much more positive way the progress you make will astound you and the speed at which you start to move in the life direction that you have chosen will be amazing. You will gain more peace, happiness and harmony as a by-product and live a life filled with much more contentment, satisfaction and joy. Your personal development is assured!
